Who am I? Yes, I am an artist, a black woman, a mother ... but my art is constantly redefining who I am and everyday I listen for my unique voice to enjoy the change in pitch, timbre or volume. I'm both a work-in-progress and a progressive work. I work, as much from painting as poetry, from make-up and costume to movement and character ... I seem to be the seer as much as I am she who is seen. My very existence is as much inspired as it is created. This begins the yin and yang of who I am.
My life in the arts began when I was greatly influenced by my mother’s theater company, The Peekskill Drama Workshop in upstate New York . It was the first time I saw someone use the arts as a peaceful solution to racial turbulence and a bridge that connects our human commonality. I've tried to achieve that in my life’s work ever since. I have been actively working in the New York and Philadelphia theatre and film industry for the past 11 years. From touring theatre for young audiences with Theatre Caravan to make-up for independent films, music videos and commercials, I've pursued my dream. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Community and Educational Theatre from Emerson College and during the past seven years, I've been devoted to various theatre outreach programs for at-risk youth living in New York City with City Lights Youth Theatre. In Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey with arts programs and performing troupes such as, Freedom Repertory Theatre, Stages of Imagination, Stageworks, Venture Theatre's Reality Crew, Camden School of Music and Art and, The Village of the Arts and Humanities. Sculpture, printmaking, painting with oil and watercolor, videography, acting, dance: African, Jazz and Modern, make-up, costuming and poetry are all areas I enjoy exploring with young people.
